I installed a SATA drive on my PC month ago and I had to install some files before loading XP on the system so Win XP would recognize the SATA. I'm sure a lot of people already discussed this problem.

So after installing SP3 on my machine it crashed it, windows would keep on rebooting non-stop, just like when I tried to install XP on my SATA drive the first time. It seems that SP3 wiped out the two files necessary to run the Sata, to get my system back I used the XP disk to Repair it and also install the two files with the A: drive.

But the SP3 patch never made it, now my automatic updates keep on trying to load it on my machine, what can I do? It seems that SP3 wiped out the two files necessary to run the Sata, to get my system back I used the XP disk to Repair it and also install the two files with the A: drive. But the SP3 patch never made it, now my automatic updates keep on trying to load it on my machine, what can I do?Just want to say that I had to intall the two files fram the A drive before I could use (R) repair from the XP diskThis is the boot up file to install SATA drive on XPmotherboarddriverraidnvidiamcp55bootdiskxpmotherboarddriverraidnvidiamcp55bootdiskxp64I got mu pc to run fine after that but the patch is not there anymore. When repairing XP from the disk you loose the ability to get automatic upgrades, you need to do a little voodo to get it working againhere is the page that will tell you how to fix itone worked fine for me.Now SP3 keeps on trying to dowload and install itself.Originaly I dowloaded SP3 from a website, and it looks like Microsoft made it available with the updates today. Never a dull moment. Evening,Not to disagree, but SP3 doesnt like unsigned drivers. There are many posts as sugguested.

But there may be many problems causing the system to reboot also. Are you using the latest revision of your mb bios?Did you turn off any cool n quiet or speed reduction programs?Did you update all the other drivers for your system, chipset, videocard, processor drivers? Amd, dual core systems require a dual core optimizer.First turn off the auto reboot feature by right clicking on my computer. Turn off the auto reboot. Enable Memory dump to see what is happening.KB316450You may have to boot into safe mode. Which version of the SP3 are you using?Click on start, run, cmd, enter winver, if you are using anything older then 5503, or 5508.

Using the latest version may solve part of your problem. I am guessing you are using the Sp3 refresh.May have to uninstall the system if you find a more recent SATA driver. If you have the ability to slipstream it into your instllation disk. This may help WinPE, is the recommended solution. Not support for home usage, but professional.A) Antivirus, KAS, NOS, are enabled. Clearly stated in SP3 requirements.

These programs must be turn off.B) How ever a good look at the svcpack log file will help shed light on the true cause of the problem.Uncheck the hide system files and folders. Then navigating to the%windir%$ntuninstallsvcpack$ folder has this file.1) Top reason intel system SATA driver is an older version, search in your m/b manufacter web site for the latest version or check with the www.intel.com web site. Also certain Intel.inf files for the SP3 may not work correctly.2) System was imaged with both Intel and AMD PPM. Removing the inappropriate driver helps reboots. Oem disks from Hp and others have had this problem.Assuming you have a AMD systemUsing regedit Navigate to the following registerykey. HKEYLOCALMACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesIntelppmStartIf it is present, and set to 1 change it to 0x4 hexdecimal.

RebootAnd some settings on the mb require APM to be enabled or disabled depending on revision of the motherboard bios.3) Nvidia MB, nforce4 not WHQL signed driver used. More recent then 6.86 6.85 used.4) Nforce 2 and nforce remixed drivers used. The inf or the textsetup.oem were modded to support older chipsets. Breaking the signed package, and causing the endless reboots.see thisc) Looking in the%windir%system32 for windows update to see if there was a problem with registery access. Not running the SP3 up date as an adminstrator can cause problems. Also removing as an adminstrator in safe mode, will help prevent most problemsCheck and is if you have this program subinacl installed. Evening Cryso,So far the answer from Microsoft has been. Sata will not be included.

If your restore installation had SATA, it was because it was a O.E.M. Designed disk. (Guessing here)The reasons I can guess is not only does Microsoft have to pass the European Market test. The image was designed to be frozen to when XP was created. Adding Dot net 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5, And or Internet Exploer, would not allow Microsoft to pass European sales. But in additon, adding the Sata drivers would increase the complexity of support. There are no easy answers except to do what you are currently doing. Ask Microsoft to include SATA, at least the nase versions of SATA.If you can find a place to burn your cd, with WAIK or Win PE.Not recommend Nero. would allow you to use the latest Sp3 when it goes RTM or available to the public.

In additon to restore if there are problems.Technet subscriber(s) will receive this earlier.KeithRemember I am not a Microsoft spokesman, or an employee, just an It adminstrator, computer user helping to improve the Xp experience.
